Two Kenya's Linus Maiyo and Jane Murage have overcome 26.000 other runner to win Philadelphia's Broad Street Run in soggy conditions on Sunday. They won men's and women's divisions of the Broad Street Run.
Maiyo (26) completed the 10 mile course in 0:47:21 and beating Worku Beyi of Bronx N.Y by four second. And Murage (22) Murage defended her 2008 title by finishing in 53:31, 13 seconds ahead of Buznesh Deba of the Bronx.
The runners braved sporadic and sometimes heavy showers making for slick road conditions for the record field of more than 26,000. Maiyo took the lead at about the three-mile mark but was closely trailed by Beyi until the last quarter-mile, when he broke away.
"The crowds were cheery and the course was flat. I loved it," Maiyo said. "This is my biggest win of the year and I'm happy about it."
Murage broke quickly at the start and built an early 12-second lead en route to improving on last year's time of 54:16.
